Frassi – the new must-eat Italian in Taiwan

Frassi is Taipei’s latest craze, a michelin-star in the making. At $3680NTD for the seasonal tasting menu, it has high CP value meaning its more than worth the price.

We had a beautiful 9-course Italian meal, with a generous amount of fresh home-made bread and black garlic butter (which we couldn’t get enough of!!). You can also pair your dinner with a wine or non-alcohol pairing.

We booked online, and found a table 2 weeks in advance. The bookings are starting to fill up fast, so make sure you find a table to try Taipei’s latest must-eat Italian fine dining (booking link below).

Starters

The starter started off strong, with fresh high-quality ingredients like wagyu ham, abalone, and the juiciest melon you’ll ever eat. Each bite was heavenly and set us up for the meal ahead. The crisp potato cannolo has lobster which can be substituted for an avocado cream.

Antipasto

This was probably one of my favorites, because I love foamy dishes. The abalone was incredible, cooked perfectly. The ankimo (monkfish liver) at the bottom flavored every bite. The green oil of herbs freshened the whole dish – you’ll find this oil throughout the meal tying the menu together. Before the meal they showed us the ingredients used to make the dish!

Pasta

A choice of Lamb Cappelleti or Truffle Tagliolinin was presented to us. We picked both! For an extra 680NTD ($20USD) you get a delicious tagliolini pasta with a mountain-high pile of black truffle. The Cappelleti was filled with lamb and a thai-like sauce. Also really great for meat-lovers.

Pesce

For the seafood, Frassi served a healthy portion of Amadai, a loved tilefish popular in Taiwan. It’s also known as horsehead fish (馬頭魚). It was served with lemon-preserved white asparagus which they showed us before the meal. I loved that Frassi would display the fresh ingredients before the meal really highlighting the freshness and farm-to-table beliefs.

Carne

For the meat portion, instead of beef (which we had a wagyu version of in the starter) Frassi served pigeon! I haven’t had pigeon since I was young, growing up in Egypt so I was excited to try it again. The leg was served whole, underneath were tiny cubes of pigeon meat and lard adding bites of flavor to the dish. I loved the sticky creamy potato, served again with the herb oil to cut the meat.

We took a peep into their fridge to see the prep of the food.

Dessert

On to dessert! At this point we were incredibly full, slightly regretting having eaten so much of the delicious bread. But dessert lives in another stomach so we pushed through and devoured the final 2 dishes. The gelato was beautifully presented, with elements of the menu like the crisp from the starter, the cream looked like the potato from the pigeon meal, and ofcourse the visuals of the green herb oil. It was super refreshing to end on the sweet and tangy notes.

🍨 Gelato: Green Apple, Yogurt, Marigold
🍰 Dolce: Rhubarb, Shiso, Buttermilk

Bread

Saving the best for last. We had bread throughout the meal, using it to soak up the remainders of our soups, pasta sauces, and the black garlic butter.

The bread comes in 3 types (or 4 counting the grissini): Ciabatta, Stout, Country. Made with Italian yeast, Biga, the homemade bread was fresh and so-so addicting.
