The weather’s getting warmer, music is playing, rooftops are opening, art exhibits and food fairs are popping up – there’s a lot of exciting new events happening in Taipei this month – check out the list below for fun things to do in May.

The Philharmonix

Start off your month with live music by classical, jazz, and latin music group The Philharmonix. Enjoy world-class musicians from the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic perform fun-renditions of classical music.
Tpe2Icn Exhibition Opening Party

Oomph is an underground art space and one of my favorite places to go to. They’re experimental, exciting, and work tirelessly to expose Taiwan to new artists. This month they’re running a collaborative exhibition by Shameez Joubert and Macedonio Guerra. Stop by their opening party for art, music, and to meet the coolest people in Taipei.

It’s A House Party
Level Up is hosting their 5th House Party this month at Ivy Palace with DJ’s, great drinks, and an amazing open-air space to mingle and dance. Ivy Palace is one of Taipei’s most unique event spaces. Originally built in 1925 as a rice mill, it is now a multi-functional building that hosts poetry nights, workshops, and parties. (If you’re going to the exhibition opening at Oomph, you can hop on the party bus from the gallery at 11:30pm which takes you straight to this after party)

If you’re more into eccentric live music, check out French Kiss’ Fusion Music event this weekend. Dance along to a mix of live drumming-machines, keyboard synths, and a classical viola.
Paint Your Pet

Here’s a fun, wholesome thing to do for people looking to get creative. Paint Sip Art is hosting an event where you can paint pictures of your beloved pets. This event happens twice this month so don’t miss it. Message them in advance if you’d like to be taught in English!
Green Oasis: Spring on Sand Project

W Hotel, known for their chic bar and pool, will be showcasing their ‘beach’ made out of recyclable glass in an effort to raise awareness on sustainability. H&M will also be exhibiting 5 pieces from their new Conscious Exclusive collection at the events. Grab a drink, hangout, and learn about sustainability in a relaxed environment.
Hooch Pub Quiz

Taipei’s coolest vegan restaurant not only makes the best vegan burgers, but now has opened up a fun bar/event space in their newest store. Stop by their very first trivia night for beers, music, and yummy snacks.
Wine Feast – Bottomless Wine and Mexican food

This charming french winery/shop hosts events every month. For May, they’ve partnered up with Pachuco to serve delicious Mexican fare along with refreshing (and unlimited!) wines. What better way to start off your weekend than with good food, great wine, and fabulous company.
Margaret Cho | Fresh Off The Bloat – Live in Taipei

It’s super exciting to see Margaret Cho performing at NTUH this month. Her standup touches on sexuality, sex, abuse, and asianism but feels like a girls night, truthful, baring, and hilarious.

Kor is Taipei’s chicest bar and have been recently hosting a lot of events pairing local high-end restaurants with delicious liquors and cocktails. DJ WUKI – presented by Sweet N Sour

While on the topic of hip, my favorite hip hop club, Chess, will be hosting a Sweet N Sour event with DJ Wuki. Coming straight from Coachella, his set featurea a mix of trap, dubstep, and EDM. I’ll be helping out during this event so feel free to message me for tickets or table bookings!
Iron & Wine Concert
Date: May 17

Tone it down with some indie folk by Iron & Wine. They were one of my favorite bands growing up and I’m so excited that they’re touring in Taipei. Take a listen to Boy With A Coin and see if they’re your thing.
8th TVF Vegan Fair

A marketplace with over 70 vendors selling vegan-friendly food, art, jewelry, and more. The 8th TVF Vegan Fair is situated in a gorgeous park walking distance from Maji Maji (another park/community space with lots of food stalls) – it would be a great place to spend an afternoon.
National Beach Clean Up Day – Baishawan
Date: May 20
Time: 11:00am – 1:00pm
Location: Meet at Origin Yoga & Wellness
Price: Free
End your month by helping out the planet. Hosted by Taiwan Adventure Outings and Origin Yoga & Wellness, this 2 hour event is a great way to meet other people while cleaning up the environment. After the event you can cool off by jumping in the ocean at Baishawan, Taipei’s white-sand beach.

Le Monde Pop Up Shop Art Show

朋 丁 Pon Ding is an art space slash book store slash coffee shop. This month they’re hosting a pop-up shop as well as several artists works throughout their three floors. Stop by to pick up a book, check out some fresh art, and hang out.
International Rooftop Party

Location: Keepworking Coworking Space (趣工作共同工作空間)

This event had me at BBQ and beer… and rooftops, and pizza, that’s more than enough reason to check this place out. It’s also hosted in Taipei’s new co-working space, Keepworking. These spaces have been popping up all over Taipei recently and I love it!
