Happy post valentines day ♥️ Had another great meal at Fresh Station. Highlight being the translucent baby eels, can you see their eyes? (First pic) The juicy scallops were also so delicious paired with the kombu and truffle salt. (Pic 3) And the easiest way to my heart is through mullet roe (pic 5) 🤤 it’s one of my most favorite things. So much flavor in such thin slices. They even made a sauce out of the roe to dip the fish in. I’m drooling again. ————— 🍣Fresh Station (逸鮮棧) 🗺 No.500-5, Sec. 4, Zhongxiao E. Rd., Xinyi Dist., Taipei 💰2500nt 🤰 #foodbabysushi
Just three more days of CNY splurging left and we’re still going. For breakfast we got this incredible sticky rice (筒仔米糕) that’s steamed in cups with a mix of lean, fatty meat and egg. Different from traditional methods of cooking in bamboo leaves but just as glutinous. The beef fat melts into the rice making every bite super flavorful. Would also recommend their liver ginger soup. Go early as they get really popular in the afternoon, selling an entire tub every few minutes. ————— 🍚 Daqiaotou rice cakes 🗺 No. 41, Section 3, Yanping North Road, Datong District, Taipei 💰70-80ntd
Another sprawling hot pot situation Not pictured: another plate of lamb, a plate of duck, and all the vegetavles that are now in the pots. While this place isn’t all you can eat, it certainly feels like it with their portions. Good quality meats and seafood, and love that they have so many broth options! We each got to pick our own flavors so we ordered regular, mala, herbal, and sour cabbage. Perfect for sharing. ————— 🥩 好食多涮涮鍋 🗺 No. 8 Da-an Road Section 1 Lane 19 Da-an District, Taipei 💰 300 - 450ntd
One of the highlights from our meal at @verde_taipei is their burdock soup heated up with hot rocks. Using rocks to cook soup is a traditional indigenous cooking method in Taiwan (and in many other places around the world), developed from the lack of access to ovens, stoves etc. Using rocks heated from the hot Taiwan sun (it can get up to 40 degrees celsius in the summer), the rocks bring the base to a point hot enough to heat the ingredients in the soup. Verde’s take uses burdock and other roots instead of meat for a hearty vegetarian version. The rocks are heated on fire which bring the soup instantly to a boil when carefully dropped in (see video), while it may be more for visuals, the flavors are still incredible! ———— 🌋Verde 🗺 No. 401, Ren-ai road, Section 4, da-an dist, Taipei 💰Lunch set 880 and 1280 💰 Dinner set 1680 and 2080 🤰#foodbabyvegetarian ———— 👨‍🍳 @cheftimothylu @likekangta721
Every dish at Verde, Taiwan’s newest high end vegetarian restaurant, is creative, gorgeous, and full of backstory. @cheftimothylu and chef @likekangta721 create a beautiful narrative using local Taiwanese ingredients to transform dishes from his childhood in NYC into their vegetarian equivalent. 🍗 Using a mini chicken mold they’ve made a bite-sized mushroom broth reminiscent of rotisserie chicken 🥕 An unforgettable carrot butter paired with delicious fresh-baked bread, tempted to ask for extra bread but knew there was more dishes to come 🍅 A cold amuse-bouche using tomatoes found in Hsinchu. Each tomato had 6(!) types of tomatoes in it. Plated to look just like they did on the farm with air-fried olives as soil. 🍕Hot pizza bites made with vegan cheese and onion, who didn’t have these as kids? 🌮 Deconstructed tacos (reminds me of New York so much) the tangy guac paired so well with the crunchy taco shell and popcorn 🥪 PB&J foie gras, this is where the fine-dining comes in. Using Taichung grapes and mushroom purée to create a foie gras that tasted like peanut butter and jelly when spread on bread 🍢A tofu yakitori made with soy milk and tofu skin 🥕 The Humble Carrot really emphasized the flavor of the carrot. Also really excited to see dill in Taiwan! 🍝 Purple potato gnocci with kale and truffle, LOVED the colors on this plate 🥟 My favorite dessert by pastry chef @patissieradam: pineapple xiao long bao icecream, with a pineapple syrup (looks like ginger dip) to pair. Overall a unique experience, can’t wait to see what future seasonal menus have in store! ———— 🍃Verde 🗺 No. 401, Ren-ai road, Section 4, da-an dist, Taipei 💰Lunch set 880 and 1280 💰 Dinner set 1680 and 2080 🤰#foodbabyvegetarian
The largest KAWS work is currently sitting in front of CKS Memorial hall towering over the neighboring buildings and overlooking the gardens. Really exciting to see more and more art in Taipei this month, looking forward to seeing what the rest of 2019 has in store. If you’re already in the area, there’s also an Andy Warhol exhibition as well as a gallery showcasing several studio Ghibli sketches in the memorial gardens. Don’t miss out! ————— ✖️KAWS:HOLIDAY 🗺CKS memorial hall 💰Free 📆Here till Sunday (27 Jan 2019) @kaws @jjlin @arr.allrightsreserved
